21 Days to a Peaceful Holiday is 21 days of emails – through the Winter solstice, the shortest day of the year – with invitations and practices to honor light and lightness, ease and peace, love and joy. An optional private Facebook group will allow you to deepen your understanding and share your experiments  with the rest of the class.

This class grew out of our own struggles with the excess and expectations of the holidays and our desire to celebrate more intentionally and simply. In 21 short messages, we will share with you the tools we have used to find our way to celebrating more mindfully and joyfully. Give yourself the gift of a peaceful holiday.

About Us

DB head

Doña Bumgarner is a writer, artist, and mama to a three-year old. She lives in California and blogs here at Nurtured Mama. After years of dreading the holiday season, she has finally found a balance between celebrating and setting boundaries, collecting traditions and simplifying so that Christmas is now her favorite holiday.

SSH head

Sarah Stewart Holland is the impassioned voice behind Bluegrass Redhead. She lives in Kentucky with her husband and two small boys (and another on the way!). Her push for a simpler holiday started with financial hardship, when her husband lost his job in the fall of 2011. Her experience of a Christmas Without Consuming started her on a path toward more simplicity and more intention during the holidays and beyond.

  • What is the time commitment?

December is a full month. We don’t want to add to that busy-ness. The time you spend on this course will be truly up to you. You will be encouraged to think about the material we send you each day in the way that is most meaningful for you. Some prompts will resonate with you and others may not. That’s fine. You may just sit with the prompt for a moment and then go about your day. Or you may want to journal your responses or discuss them in the Facebook group or with someone close to you.

  • Can I give this class as a gift?

Absolutely! Just put a comment in the Paypal message field to let us know who you want it to go to and include their email address.

  • Do I have to have a Facebook account to participate?

Not at all! The Facebook group is entirely voluntary (and private – no one outside of the group will see what you post there).

  • Is this class focused on Christmas?

While both Sarah and Doña celebrate Christmas, and we may talk about that holiday specifically, this course is really about being mindful and peaceful in whatever holidays you celebrate (or choose not to celebrate) this month.

  •  Is this class just for moms?

No. It is for anyone wishing to bring more peace to their holidays. That said, we are both moms, and we recognize that mothers are often the guiding force in how a family holds traditions and celebrations. If you are not a mom, we would really love for you to share your perspectives and input in the Facebook group.

  • How are payments processed?

We use Paypal to handle our registration payments. If you don’t have a Paypal account you can set one up or pay with a credit card. If you want to receive your class materials at an address different than the one you use for Paypal, you will need to let us know. Just respond to your confirmation email with that information.
