I had thought this would be a monthly feature, but it looks like quarterly might be a better rhythm for me. Here’s what’s happening for me right now:

This post contains affiliate links.

  • Making: Things with yarn. Two cowls down and a shawl in progress. (Also sorting out all my half-finished projects).
  • Cooking: Soups for us and meals for friends who need a little extra support.
  • Drinking: Lots of hot herbal tea.
  • Reading: I just finished The Best of American Travel Writing compilation from 2010 (I loved the long piece on a road trip through Siberia), and am starting The Orchardist. I’m diving in to Goodreads this year to track my reading, connect with me there!
  • Wearing: Layers and layers as I’m all the time cold. I’m loving these Hue leggings that I wear under everything.
  • Feeling: Relieved that we found Bean a great new preschool, but still sad that we had to leave her previous daycare and the best teacher ever.
  • Needing: More sleep. Always more sleep.
  • Listening to: Bon Iver and the Bloom True playlist on Spotify.
  • Saying yes to right now: Going slowly, making only short lists.
  • Saying no to right now: Trying to do all the things. Especially anything that starts with, “I should do….”
  • Thinking about: What I want to create this year.
  • Worrying about: Whether I need to have another surgery this spring.
  • Noticing: The magnolia trees in crazy early bloom around town.
  • Working toward: Plans for new products and an actual shop for this blog.
  • Pinning: Lots of coloring pages and old posts to this Creative and Intentional Living board, which is my new favorite.
  • Favorite thing Bean’s been doing: Giving me lots of kisses. She also blocks doorways and tells me I need to give her 66 kisses to get through. However many I give her, she always requires two more. Also, she been calling polka dots “poppa dots.”
  • Least favorite thing Bean’s been doing: “I’m just going to do this very quickly…” while I’m trying to get her to do something else (she absolutely got that phrase and habit from me, so I’m working on cutting it out of my day, too.
  • Finding most nurturing: Knitting in front of the fire in evening with my man at my side (and usually a cat between us).
  • Dreaming about: A possible trip to Bali next fall.
  • My favorite thing last month: That there are new episodes of Downton Abbey to watch!
  • What I’m grateful for right now: That Bean had two years with Ashley. I realize how rare it is to find a truly exceptional teacher and I’m so grateful we connected with this one.

Making: Copious amounts of food for the Super Bowl party tomorrow. Also, a batch of hand crafted fairies. And I’m trying my hand at a slouchy hat.

Drinking: Lots of water, more water, super watered down juice with a pinch of salt and in the evenings wine. To much wine, I need to find a new evening treat. I *Wish* that I loved tea..

Reading: “Thinking In Numbers: on life, love and dreaming in math” by Daniel Tamment.
Also reading “Hiking The Wonderland Trail: The complete guid to Mt Rainier’s premier trail” by Tami Asars.

Wearing: Currently my Tweedy Bird Jammie’s. Daily, most often my 1 pair of well fitting Levi’s, something long sleeved and my newly thrifted Woolrich down vest.

Needing: Yoga, naps and 8 more hours in each day.

Listening to: The bunnies nibbling on their alfalfa, the dryer running, the bird chirping to himself 3 rooms away and the heated air blowing out the vests.

Saying yes to right now: Staying in bed until 1:00 pm.

Saying no to right now: The half commitment I made to go pick up a filing cabinet that I probably really don’t need.

Thinking about: The delicious turmeric & garbanzo “meat” balls and vegi chili I will be making today once the getting out of bed commences.

Worrying about: Kind of everything under the sun. And my dad, who’s health is declining.

Working toward: Creating more spaces for light, space and breath.

Pinning: Dehydrating home cooked meals for the trail, sewing ones own camping gear DIY’s and pretty colored pictures.

Favorite thing Kid’s been doing: Planning and crafting their costumes for Comicon in March. Making new friends and musical connections.

Least favorite thing Kid’s been doing: not picking up after themselves and being plugged in to technology to much.

Finding most nurturing: Cuddling our new 4 baby bunnies. Hubby moved them into the bedroom and so, every morning, we let them out of their cage and let them hop, prance, run and jump changing direction mid air as they play together. They hop up onto the bed for more play space and kisses and cuddles from us before they hop off and rip around the room again. I often carry at least one in my vest with me and have found that sitting with them cuddling close to me has done wonders for my anxiety level. They make great driving companions as well, nestled in my cozy vest.

Dreaming about: Building our retirement tiny home of cob, and a winter trip to Iceland, slated for next year.

What I’m grateful for right now: The abundance of sunny weather we have had this winter in the NW.

This was fun and thought provoking Doña, I think I might like to do this more often too. 🙂 XOXO

Making: A book. I’m writing everyday and making slow but steady progress. The good news? After three years I can see how much I’ve learned.
Cooking: Foods that have fewer than 5 Weight Watcher points. Did you hear the groan?
Drinking: Quarts…no, gallons…no, cisterns…no, reservoirs worth of water. No more orange juice. Not worth the WW points.
Reading: Nelson DeMIlle’s The Gatehouse — for funny voice. Wally Lamb’s, This Much I Knew Is True — because I loved it the first time. Under the Beautiful Dome by Terry Mutchler — because it’s about lesbians in politics, two of my favorite topics. Add spirituality and I’d be in heaven.
Wearing: Clothes that hide my muffin top. Groan number two.
Feeling: Grateful that the biggest thing to bitch about is my muffin top.
Needing: Pleased to report — after thinking on this for a few minutes — nothing comes to mind. Either I need to re-enter therapy or life is good. All needs met.
Listening to: The theme song (Hero) to the movie Boyhood. I love the song almost as much as I loved the movie. See it. Simple and real.
Saying yes to right now: Writing
Saying no to right now: Bacon, triple cream Brie and Talenti ice cream.
Thinking about: Chapter three in my book and transitions
Worrying about: Scheduling my first colonoscopy.
Noticing: The clicking of my cat’s nails on the hard wood. A trip to the vet for a nail trim is in my future. And yes, I’ve tried to cut them myself but she just won’t have it.
Working toward: One hundred finished, clean pages by May so I can send them to Susan.
Pinning: I’m not a pinner. Take out one of the ‘n’s and I’d say I was pining for all the things I’m saying no to.
Favorite thing the cats have been doing: Laying on their backs in front of the fireplace
Least favorite thing the cats have been doing: Toss things off the kitchen counter to get my attention
Finding most nurturing: Making tasty food for myself that I know is good me.
Dreaming about: Those hundred pages I’ll be sending to Susan.
My favorite thing last month: Being in Florida, sitting at a restaurant outside at 8 o’clock at night in shorts. Love the warmth.
What I’m grateful for right now: Where I come from and all the gifts it provides, Santa Cruz, all my fellow writers and the support they offer so willingly, all the beings in my house right now, Dona and the invitation to reflect on my life. Thank you.

Cathy, thank you so much for sharing this! What a delight to read and a sweet peek into your life right now. So sorry about the WW points – I feel your pain on that one. Good luck with those 100 pages!

I found that succulent in a bit of sun after a string of very wet and rainy days. I stepped out our side door and there it was in our neighbor’s yard. Such a gift!
